This shop is like a second home, having explored every inch of it as a child. It will forever hold the memory of frightening my parents by leaping off the top of the stairs, at the time I WAS ‘Mighty Mouse’.

University was 3 amazing years spent down in Bath, coming away with a BA Hons degree in Graphic Design & Illustration. I made the decision to take on the business in 2002 after a brief spell working in a Scandinavian design company.

My sister joined me in the shop 4 years later and together are continuing to use our love of this industry to take the shop to its next stage; one where it has become more interiors based and provides a fuller package for home decoration as well as furnishing.

Time off and my escapes tend to be mainly on a plane, preferably long haul and always with a camera in my bag. Photography is a massive passion for me and certainly comes in handy when it comes to work as well!

The shop has been part of my life from the very beginning. As little girls I remember Vicky and I eating penny sweets on a Saturday afternoon, watching ‘Grandstand’ and playing the best games of ‘Hide & Seek’ ever!

My 20’s were spent having fun down in London and achieving a BA Hons degree in ‘Printed Textiles and Decorative Arts’, designing and printing my own wallpapers and furnishing fabrics.

I then worked at Chelsea Harbour for the beautiful French fabric house ‘Nobilis’ and my love for fine furnishings and interiors was born.

I came back home to Cheshire with my husband Mike in 2006 and joined the family business. Alongside my sister Vicky we have enjoyed the challenge of evolving the shop into the unique and exciting place that it has become today.

I am a proud Mum of two gorgeous kids and life is hectic and full to say the least… thankfully I have my ‘Gary Barlow’ calendar on the office wall to keep me sane!!!!

Over 40 years ago I began working alongside my husband Vernon in the family business, Arthur Lee. I trained as a nurse in my teens before I met Vernon and we married in 1973. Helen came along in 1976 followed by Vicky three years later. As ‘mum’ my place has always been the more practical in the business. I became a wife, shop owner and Jack of all trades!

Life was never dull, the girls grew up in the business, meeting and greeting customers surrounded by furniture, beautiful artifacts and not forgetting the infamous dust! It stood them in good stead, and little has changed as the shop still displays the best of what we can find!

My life although still hectic has changed a wee bit, I now play golf weekly, and I am a doting nanny to Charlie & Leonie who I look after regularly along with time spent helping my ageing mum. An artist at heart, I dabble when I have a free moment with art and craft projects, which I thoroughly enjoy.

I still work in the shop but not as much as I did in the past, and always enjoy my time there helping our two girls continue to make a success of this wonderful family business.

I have been working at the shop since I left school at 16 in the early 60’s. Spending much of my time travelling the width and breadth of Britain searching for fine antiques. After 50 years it still fascinates me that you can come across pieces that you never believed could exist, if only they could talk! Alongside the antique, I also have great passion for more classic modern design and architecture.

Sadly my days of driving the van down to auction sales in London and the south coast have come to an end and I now let the train take the strain! Also my seat in the director’s chair has been taken by Helen & Vicky, and I am now relegated to tea boy!

Over the last 50 years or so I have seen many changes in my business and it is with great pride to see my daughters take on the mantle for the next exciting era.

My C.V is long and varied, too long and varied to bore you with! But for the last 12 years I have run my own removals and delivery business.

After 9 years of working closely with Arthur Lee they made me an offer I couldn’t refuse and I jumped at the chance to work full time with such a dedicated hardworking and fun family.

When not lifting furniture you can normally find me throwing myself down the side of a hill on my mountain bike…
